Principals
My peers describe me as a “true entrepreneurial spirit,” having spent the majority of my 30-year career spearheading technology strategy and development for successful startup companies, and for business units within larger firms. I take great pride in my ability to bridge the gap between a company’s business requirements and the technology strategies and solutions needed to support them.
I have delivered high impact, leading edge products across a variety of industries, starting with my work at NASA and General Electric, and expanding to the consumer electronics, digital rights management and healthcare markets. I have led a wide range of product launches including hardware based products (B2C & B2B) as well as software solutions for both internal customers and web based SAAS solutions (B2B & B2C). As the Chief Technology Officer at several early-stage and start-up companies, I was instrumental in raising over $10 million in venture capital. As a co-founder and CTO of Cinea, Inc., I was also actively involved in the acquisition of our company by Dolby Laboratories (NYSE: DLB) in 2003. Following the acquisition, I managed technology development as part of the Dolby management team. Currently, as a principal at Quay Consulting, I provide technology advice and insights as well as fractional CTO services to a number of companies across several industries. I also serve on the board of Acuity Management Solutions, a local technology company providing SaaS solutions to help companies efficiently and effectively manage all aspects of their legal work using outside council. In my spare time, I produce an annual fundraiser to raise awareness and dollars for research into sarcoma-based cancers. I continue to follow my passion for playing soccer competitively in adult leagues. I particularly enjoy being a teammate of my college-aged son during the summers. |
I consistently find myself drawn to the challenges of bringing new technologies and companies to life. Over the course of my 30+ year career I have had the opportunity to contribute both as a hard-core technologist as well as an entrepreneur and business leader. My strong technology background enables me to effectively bridge these two diverse cultures.
I am highly adept at analyzing situations quickly, identifying strengths/weaknesses in a company’s product and technology roadmaps, assessing the leadership team, and making the necessary changes to successfully move the organization forward. I have had many successful experiences taking a product from earliest napkin idea through production and market rollout, in the process generating over 15 patents. I have raised capital, (both debt and equity), as well as raised high risk development capital through government grants. My experiences span many different technologies, as well as horizontal, and vertical markets such as: Consumer Electronics, Computer Graphics, digital security, process automation, networking, enterprise software, web 2.0 applications, large scale retail, big data and consumer audio/video and entertainment. On the technology side I have developed and implemented a broad range of technologies some of which resulted in the 15 patents I hold. At Circuit City I was deeply involved in the development and rollout of systems across the enterprise including local and wide-area networking, Point-of-sale computers, warehouse automation, Call Center integration, home security services, customer help line technologies, training systems, and the startup of CARMAX. I ended my career at Circuit City with my work on their Digital Video Express (DIVX) effort where I lead the architecture of all aspects of complete home video rental system, including security subsystem, integration into DVD players, networking, back end databases, customer service applications, DVD production technologies, Java STB integration, and movie user interface authoring system. |
